Sodomy papers

A story The Red & Black wrote Feb. 15 titled “Man sodomized by homeless” brought tremendous response, with many seeking clarification on what exactly happened. A call to the Athens Clarke County Police Department didn’t yield any additional information, but attached is the police report from the incident.

Confusing? You bet.

  1. This is just the patrol officers initial field report, this does not include the detectives reports which wont be released.
This sounds like a drug deal gone bad.

  2. No, if you read the narrative, it is obvious that something is a little off with the victim, like maybe he is disabled or something. He had his counselor downtown with him and he describes the incident in very childlike terms. Poor guy… I don’t understand, however, why the counselor would encourage him to follow the man…

  3. Yeah, this story was almost funny (since it seemed entirely false) but upon reading the police report, it does indeed appear that the victim was disabled, thus making this a very weird and sad story. The other possibility is that the cop is just a bad writer, and didn’t get a clear point across in the incident report (more likely)

  4. Luke, officers are taught to leave details out of the initial report so that the suspect, his lawyer, and the public, wont know what the police actually know. Officers and Detectives put all the good stuff in a supplemental report, which by law they don’t have to release until the case is closed. Usually these are typed and very well written and detailed. But hey, thanks for commenting on something you know nothing about.

  5. Yeah sure Ron, thats a nice theory. The police intentionally publish things incoherently in their initial report in a way that makes them “appear” like they have no clue what they are doing, and could care less about the victim… but SECRETLY they are very detailed and well organized. I would love to believe that.
