This is no ordinary underage possession story.
Kara Rae Armstrong and Michael Alex Reich were charged with underage possession at the Alpha Chi Omega house when they trespassed on the property at 1:14 a.m. on Nov. 11.
According to the University Police report, Reich resisted being placed in handcuffs and also resisted being placed in the patrol car. While in the car, Armstrong said she was having an asthma attack. EMS said they would take her to Athens Regional Medical for psychiatric evaluation because she said she wanted to kill herself.
Armstrong then refused to get out of the patrol car for medical treatment and punched the officer in the face several times, leaving a mark on his face and breaking his glasses.
Reich was taken to the Clarke County Jail, and Armstrong was taken to the jail after being cleared through Athens Regional. Her bond was posted at $15,000!
Nuts! Opinions?
Domino’s received harassing phone calls between 3:03 and 3:10 p.m. Monday. The police report said a woman called and said “obscene” things on the phone twice. The number was blocked, and the person called 13 times in the next 15 minutes. A male then called and cussed out the Domino’s worker for hanging up on her.
What? I really wish the report had more details. So weird. Prank calls? And it was in the afternoon, so not as likely a drunk call, but you never know.
So Michael Jackson was banned from The Varsity. No seriously.
An Athens man who has the alias “Michael Jackson” was being disorderly this weekend at The Varsity and was banned for awhile. I love aliases. My favorites I’ve seen in the arrest reports have been “Tear Drop” and “Pocket.”
What’s your alias?
Courtney Tramaine Johnson, a male visitor, was arrested at Sanford Stadium at 9:49 a.m. on Nov. 7 when he got in a fight with a University employee behind the stadium on East Campus Road.
The two were in an argument when Johnson brandished two knives. Johnson was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and two counts of weapon on school property because of the incident. When police searched the area, they also charged with two counts of third degree cruelty to children because he had two kids in the car. He was also charged with possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of drug-related objects and driving with a revoked license once University police searched his car and found the items and ran his name through dispatch.
Johnson and the employee were acquaintances. There had been a previous history of problems between them.
What a busy day for the cops.
I meant to post this last week (sorry!), but it’s great.
An Athens-Clarke County Police officer was writing a parking citation at Cloverhurst and Finley around 9 a.m. Thursday when a guy wearing only plastic wrap passed him. He thought the man was merely shirtless, but when he got back into his patrol car, he noticed the guy was wearing the clear wrap while holding one end over his right shoulder.
The man walked behind Oglethorpe House, and the officer couldn’t get out of the patrol car in time to catch him! He was described as between 18 and 22, 5′9″ to 5′10″ and around 160 pounds.
I laughed out loud when I read this at the police station Friday. Two men who were waiting in the lobby to talk to a detective looked up at me. Good times.
Did anyone see this guy? If I lived in OHouse, it would definitely be a shock to me to walk to class around 9 a.m. and see this guy outside of my dorm. At least it was the night after Halloween, otherwise it would be a bit too creepy. I’m thinking he was hungover and trying to find his way home. Anyone agree? ![]()
So I typed this up for Nov. 2’s paper, but there wasn’t enough room to run it. I hope those who read this find it interesting.
Two Morris Hall roommates were arrested Wednesday after threatening to hurt each other earlier in the day.
Jasmine Anissa Dukes, 18, was charged with simple battery and Tianna Lashawn Hambrick, 18, was charged with a felony count of aggravated assault after each went to University Police separately and recounted an argument that occurred at 2 p.m.
According to the police reports:
At 4 p.m. Dukes met with Officer John Evans in the Student Learning Center and told him Hambrick picked up a pair of scissors and “began to walk towards her, stating that she was going to cut her and kill her.”
At 5:43 p.m. Evans met with Hambrick in their dorm room, and Hambrick said Dukes “intentionally made physical contact with her by pushing her in a provoking nature.”
Dukes and Hambrick are freshmen who graduated together from Banneker High School in College Park.
After investigating the situation, Evans arrested both and transported them to the Clarke County Jail.
Hambrick was booked at 9:07 p.m. Wednesday and released at 2:07 p.m. Thursday. Dukes was booked at 10:18 p.m. Wednesday and released at 1 p.m. Thursday.
Tenryn Teyatos Linston, a former employee in the Physical Plant, threatened a co-worker at the loading dock for support services at teh Chicopee Complex on Oct. 26 around 1 p.m. Kim Thomas of the Physical Plant said Linston “made verbal threats to harm” worker Jeffrey Lemanuel Hicks, according to the police report.
Linston also made physical threats by approaching Hicks with a metal folding chair and acting in an aggressive manner. There was no physical contact. Linston had to be physically removed from the scene, according to witnesses.
At 3 p.m. warrants were signed at the ACC Magistrate Court for Linston’s arrest, and he was charged with a felony count of terroristic threats and acts and a felony count of aggravated assault. He has been barred from University property for two years.
As I’ve been looking over the Athens-Clarke County reports this week, I’ve found an alarming (but positive) amount of ‘found property’ reports, especially on Wednesday. People are finding various things across the county, especially wallets, and turning them and the IDs in to police.
Lesson #1- Keep track of your belongings! Not everyone is caring in this way.
Lesson #2- Keep up the good work! I have never seen this many reports of good will. We received a letter at The Red & Black earlier this week from a lady who was so thankful that a man returned her wallet to Lost and Found at the SLC that she wanted to find him and give him a reward
Question- What was the significance of all these reports coming out on Wednesday? Good spirits before Halloween? Ha.
Does anyone have any positive stories relating to this they’d like to share? Let get the conversations going.
So I recently discovered this site — ScanAthens.com — where people can go to listen to University Police and the Athens-Clarke County Police and Fire departments. It’s basically a recording of the scanner that all the call go out on.
It has links to police zone maps, unit numbers, and the codes and signals police use over the air on the home page. The audio from the three scanners is continuously recorded and is archived for around 30 days, so you can go back and listen to the audio via the Feed Archive area.
I’ve talked with the guy who runs the site, and he said many people happen to stumble upon it. It’s really neat, so go check it out and give me some feedback! I’d like to spark some actual conversation on this blog, and I definitely need to update it more, so let’s get it started.
So an Athens woman met with Athens-Clarke County police Sunday to say that her son had been out all night and she made him tell her where he had been.
She brought him to the police station, and he said he and a friend went to Reed Street to buy cocaine.
They did the same thing on Carriage Lane. He said he was willing to speak with a detective from the Drugs and Vice Department about it.
The best part — the alias of the guy on Reed Street is “Jay” and the alias of the guy on Carriage Lane is “Peter Pan.”
So will police bust this up?
