So Georgia will play Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl.
I figured Georgia wouldn’t make the National Championship, and that’s fine. Georgia didn’t get snubbed out of the title game. While I think the Bulldogs are one of the top 2 teams in the country, the system is what it is, and having an SEC champion in the title game is probably the most fair.
With that said, the Bulldogs did get snubbed by the BCS. For the way the Bulldogs finished the season, to get Hawaii is absolutely ridiculous. It’s about money and it’s obvious the Sugar Bowl didn’t want Kansas, Illinois, Arizona State or another fluff team to play Hawaii, therefore making two lousy games instead of one. So they kept their host team, let the Rose pick the traditional conference matchup and now we are blessed with two extremely lousy matchups. Does Illinois even belong in the BCS? Georgia and USC in the Rose Bowl would have been a battle for preseason No. 1 for next year and it would have been a battle for the hottest team in America. Instead, Georgia and USC have cakewalks.

I agree that USC Georgia wouldve been the game to see next to LSU-Ohio State. Cakewalk? lol you may need to eat some humble pie on that Georgia-Hawaii matchup - you obviously havent seen them play, nor do have you figured in the incredible boost Hawaii gets from even being IN a BCS game…
I expect to see youre apology here within i hour of Hawaii beating Georgia…
Tom,
If Hawai’i beats Georgia, you got it. I am putting myself out there by saying that but I do believe Georgia will roll over Hawai’i.
Hawai’i’s offense will score about 24-28 on Georgia. However, I expect Georgia to roll up 45-50. I have watched Hawai’i play. I saw the Washington comeback, I watched the Boise State game and I watched them almost lose to Louisiana Tech.
Georgia will be too fast and too physical. This isn’t last year’s Oklahoma vs. Boise State. Boise won with a lot of help on defense. Hawai’i won’t be able to stop Georgia.
But if they win, I will apologize in the blog and in the paper. If Hawai’i wins I will be begging Bill Belichick to give me a slice of his humble pie.
Thanks for reading this blog, not many people do.
Thanks,
Jason Butt
I am just as upset as the next guy about this BCS situation, but I’m not sure either of those games will be a cakewalk. I fear an underestimation by Georgia, similar to the one we pulled against West Virginia. But I think with all the mediocrity this year, anything can happen, and Illinois is poised to surprise USC. USC did get upset by Stanford, and they had trouble with Dennis Dixon as a rushing QB. Hot or not, four weeks without a game could lead to a cooling off, especially when you add two possible sleepers to the equation.
I’m a Bama fan, but I really do think that Georgia was overlooked. The teams that beat #2 LSU were beaten, hands-down, by Georgia. Regardless, look at things this way. Georgia is still playing in the host bowl of the National Championship, playing in January, and against the ONLY undefeated team. So, IF Georgia does win, which I hope they do(GO SEC!!!), then they should rightly declare their team National Champions. Isn’t that what Boise St. did last year?
